Song of the Week: “Whatever She’s Got”

DavidNail-03-big

David Nail will always hold a special place in my career. In 2009, I flew to Nashville to cover CMA Fest for the first time. I instantly fell in love with the city, the music, and every artist I met. I was very much a country newbie and a bit intimidated but everyone I met was so incredibly friendly my nerves quickly disappeared.

I headed over to a stage right off the main strip of downtown Nashville to see Nail perform right before I interviewed him. I figured it’d make good research and it did. At this point, he was about to release his debut album and was pitched to me as being one of country music’s latest heartthrobs. He was.

It’s been fun to watch his success over the years and his singles climb to the top of the country charts. He has such a distinct emotive quality in his voice. Whether he’s singing of heartbreak on his first single “Red Light” or cheating on “Let It Rain” you can’t help but feel for him and take his side in every song.

His latest single, “Whatever She’s Got” shows a different side of him, though. More upbeat, he said it’s the first track of his that he’s ever seen his wife dance along to. That has to tell you something. Listen below and stay tuned for new music from him later this summer.

Song of the Week: "Let It Rain"

Yesterday, David Nail debuted the music video for his latest single, “Let It Rain” off his upcoming sophomore release. The song and dramatic video was inspired by the film, The Last Kiss.

“I had just seen the movie The Last Kiss, and it was a pretty powerful ending. I just tried to paint the picture of what that guy seemed to be feeling, when he realized the significance of what he had just done!

“With the video, I tried to recreate the rawness and reality of that moment,” he continued. “I wanted to grab people’s attention immediately, and I feel like Stephen [Shepherd] and I accomplished that. I can’t wait for the fans to see it because I think they will see this video is different than the past ones I’ve done.”

Co-written by Nail and Jonathan Singleton, watch “Let It Rain” below.

Video Interview: David Nail

I’m officially making the move to Brooklyn this week (yay!). With freelance work and packing keeping me super busy, I thought I’d make it Video Week on the blog and showcase all the video interviews I’ve worked on.

Just over a year ago I began filming interviews thanks to my friend and talented photographer/videographer Wendy Hu. David Nail was the first video interview we conducted last summer at the CMA Music Festival in Nashville. It’s crazy to think some of our Q&A;’s have received over 6,000 views! We have a few more to edit and post later this summer, so stay tuned!

A self-proclaimed mama’s boy, Nail filled me in on his transition into the country music scene, the inspiration behind some of his songs and his favorite part of performing in the video below. Be sure to visit him on MySpace.

David Nail

David Nail‘s foray into the music scene is an inspiring tale of persistence and dedication in the midst of ongoing frustrations and obstacles thrown in his path. From moving to Nashville right out of high school to releasing his debut album, I’m About To Come Alive, featuring tracks by Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts’ Gary Le Vox and guest vocals by Miranda Lambert, Nail has come a long way.

A self-proclaimed mama’s boy, Nail filled me in on his transition into the country music scene, the inspiration behind some of his songs and his favorite part of performing in the video below. With his debut album due out late August and a recent marriage, Nail seems to have it all figured out. Be sure to visit his MySpace to hear his current chart-topping single, “Red Light” as well as tracks from his upcoming release.
