Switchfoot Reveal Album Listening Session

Yesterday Switchfoot let fans into their studio as they listened to their upcoming release, Vice Verses in it’s entirety. Their eighth LP, the San Diego natives reveal that this is their boldest record to date and share their emotions before and after listening to the record.

“I just listened to 12 songs that are probably 12 of the better songs I’ve ever heard you write,” said Tim Foreman to brother/frontman Jon.

Due in stores September 27th, the band is currently planning their fall tour with ANBERLIN. For tour dates, visit their Web site. Watch the album teaser below and be sure to read my previous interviews with the band.

YSIW Featured on Her Campus

The past four years have been unlike anything I could have possibly dreamed up. When starting You Sing I Write back in October 2007, I never thought it would grow as much as it has and I’d be able to interview some of my favorite musicians — although that was always the goal!

Recently, Gennifer Delman interviewed me for Her Campus, an online magazine for college women. I’m featured in “How She Got There” where they spotlight successful women in different industries.

It’s such an honor to be recognized for my work over the past few years! You can read the full feature here and learn a little bit more about how I got my start. In other news, I’m psyched to announce I’ll be headed to Nashville this June to cover the 40th annual CMA Music Festival! Be sure to let me know which artists you want me to interview and if you have any spots you recommend me checking out while in Nashville!

Puppet's Jazz Bar Faces Closure – Again

After months of financial struggle, Park Slope’s famed jazz club, Puppet’s Jazz Bar, might open its doors for the last time this evening.

Even despite a community bailout last summer – where $21,000 was raised to help keep the venue open – owners say that the Fifth Avenue music venue just can’t keep afloat.

“People simply have less money to spend, and so we are making less money. We are getting people through our doors less often, and when they come they are spending, on average, half of what they used to,” said co-owner Martin Fagin.

Tonight Fagin and co-owner Jamie Affoumado will host what could be one last blowout jazz performance, in hopes of raising enough funds to keep the doors open a little longer. Local jazz staples such as Arturo O’Farrill, Alex Blake, Randy Johnston, John McNeil and more are set to perform.

NEEDTOBREATHE Join Taylor Swift's 2011 Tour

Last week, I named NEEDTOBREATHE as You Sing I Write’s band of the week. Quite possibly my favorite concert of 2010 so far, NEEDTOBREATHE’s phenomenal live set impressed at Irving Plaza. It comes as no surprise then, that I’m not their only fan.

Earlier this year, Taylor Swift tweeted:  “Trying to find a @needtobreathe concert close to one of our tour dates– dying to see their show!” Turns out, last week she invited the South Carolina natives to join her during her 2011 US and Canadian tour dates and let her fans know via twitter.

“@needtobreathe is my opening act for the Speak Now Tour. It’ll be a nightly challenge to get ready for my show instead of watching theirs”

Amos Lee

Singer/songwriter Amos Lee has toured with everyone from Merle Haggard and Bob Dylan to Paul Simon and Elvis Costello. So it comes as no surprise that many country artists respect the Americana/folk artist.

Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott is one of Amos’ many country admirers, along with Willie Nelson and Lucinda Williams, who lend their voices on his upcoming album, ‘Mission Bell.’

“Great songwriters don’t come around that often. Amos is an exceptional artist, a true story teller, unique to his generation,” says Willie.

While ‘Mission Bell’ isn’t due for release until January 25 of next year, Amos filled me in on the recording process, his Farm Aid performance and just how he recruited Willie to join him in the studio. For the complete Q&A visit The Boot and be sure to watch his performance tonight on CMT’s “Artists of the Year.”

CMT to Air "Artists of the Year" Special December 3

Tomorrow night, CMT will honor Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Zac Brown Band as the top artists of the year in a 90-minute special. Hosted by Kevin Costner, CMT’s  “Artists of the Year,” premiers at 8:00 p.m., ET.

Taped in Nashville, “Artists of the Year” will bring the honorees together with their peers for an evening of performances from the country world and beyond. Tune in for surprise guest appearances by Joe Perry, Maroon 5, Adele, Amos Lee and more!

This year’s acts were chosen by ranking the top five artists based on the following criteria: sales, country radio airplay, concert grosses, and activity on CMT.com. The rankings were then compiled to identify the leading performers across the four categories cumulatively.

Watch a preview of tomorrow night’s special below.
